TEKWAR
README FILE
This is a beta Demo of TekWar the Game. As with any beta, there are
bound to be a few problems as the game is still not finished. Before you
get started there are a few things you need to know. Although the
graphics in TEKWAR are stunning, unless you have a high end machine,
we recommend playing in 320 x 200 mode.
Type "RUN" to play the game and see the Shatner intro and ending.
Type "TEKD1" to play the game without the sequences.
Type "TEKD1 nogore" or "RUN nogore" if you do not want blood and guts.
Use the setup.exe utility to adjust game settings, set up audio/video,
read this file, adjust controls, etc..
ESC will cut short the Shatner sequences.
ESC brings up the main menu when in the game.
The F1 key brings up the help menu when in the game.
Refer to the setup.exe utility for all the key meanings/assignments.
When you select Joystick On in the setup utility, the demo begins in
joystick calibration mode.
F11 key toggles joystick centering on/off. With joystick centering on, move
the joystick to its limits on the four axes. That is, move it all the
way up, all the way down, all the way left, all the way right. Then press
F11 to toggle off joystick centering.
All the game controls are currently being reworked and are not in their
final form. The game may be a little choppy in places due to map design
issues as well as our not having optimized the code yet for speed, but we
hope to have all that ironed out for the finished game. Please bear with
us and give us feedback on what you like and do not like so we can give
you what you want in the final game.
To save download time, we have not included the full 3D rendered intro,
or the full motion video briefings and debriefings by William Shatner that
will be in the final version.
For the game, we will have a bunch of new weapons and
gadgets to play with, a lot more of Greater Los Angeles to explore and
six more TekLords to deal with.
We have added a new functionality to the mouse.
In addition to the usual forward, back,
turning, and holding the right mouse button (RMB) down to walk
straight ahead, by holding the RMB down and moving the mouse in the
opposite direction, you switch which direction you go when you hold
the button down. i.e. you start with it set to walk forward when the
RMB is pushed, if you then pull the mouse back while holding down the
RMB, you now go in reverse when the RMB is held down. Now you
can get out of trouble as easily as you got into it and retreat while still
being able to fire. The default sensitivity of how far the mouse needs to
be moved to change the default direction is set to 100. After playing
for a while if you would like to customize it to accommodate your
personal style, press [F10] and move the mouse forward or back to
increase or decrease the setting, The lower the number the less you
have to move the mouse , the larger, the further to switch. When you
have set the sensitivity set to your desired level, hit [F10] again to save
and exit the adjustment mode.
Wea are developing a more creative "AI" for the characters in TekWar.
First of all, the Tekgoons do
not just walk stupidly toward you shooting and ignoring your shots.
They may guard a location, chase you or maybe even stalk you. In
combat, do not be surprised if they dodge and duck and take advantage
of cover. If you notice a door is open and you knew it was closed,
watch out, you may be being stalked! On the hard setting, it only takes
a few hits to put you out, so save often. You start out with two
weapons and can find another. The first is the Kralov CEG 15 Stunner
and the second is the C & W Model 2040. The third weapon you can
find is the Shrike DBK. It is a very powerful energy weapon, but until
you find the ACCUTRAK for it, you may find it a little inaccurate.
Remeber that you lose points for killing civillians.
